an adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's novel, An Unsocial Socialist
by Jeffrey Hatcher
SMASH, by Jeffrey Hatcher, is an adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's novel, An Unsocial Socialist. Sidney Trefusis, a millionaire socialist, leaves his newly married wife, Hettie, minutes after their wedding to pursue his plan to overthrow the British Government. He plans to take over a small, private, women's college and plant the graduating ladies into prominent houses in England, thus sowing the seeds of radical socialism into the highest levels of government. Of course, nothing ever goes quite as planned. Love triangles, mistaken identity, and outrageous characters make this British farce a jolly good time in the theatre.
