Fernando Barrios, Roxi Morales Velazco, and Maria Esther Manzanares will travel to Tantoyuca, Mexico, in June to complete their project, “Colaborando con Parteras: The Importance of Midwives and Recording of Indigenous Knowledge.”

The two gave a poster presentation titled “Investigating Genetic Diversity of the American Chestnut Planted in the Pacific Northwest.” The presentations took place in a large ballroom, with dozens of posters being presented. Yet Riddle and Sakyi noticed people seemed drawn to their poster.
Only two of 135 award-winners at the 2023 SACNAS STEM conference came from schools in the Gem State, one of which was College of Idaho senior Ethan Bassingthwaite.
The summer program, called The College of Idaho Scholars Program, just completed its second year. It’s one of multiple undergraduate research opportunities available during the year in scientific fields at the College.
Her experiences with the Victory Institute, Senator Baldwin, and the White House have changed her mindset – from international politics to perhaps one day returning to Idaho to help lead her home state.
