C of I Community Learning gears up for Fall 2018 classes

School will be in session for students at The College of Idaho later this month, but our undergrads aren’t the only ones who are invited to learn something new this fall thanks to the return of C of I Community Learning classes starting this September.

College of Idaho trustee Mary Smith and her husband, C of I alum and former trustee Dr. James Smith ’64, already showed their generosity to the College with a $1 million gift to complete the second phase of renovations at Boone Science Hall in 2012. But the Smiths’ generosity will not stop at Boone Hall thanks to yet another $1 million gift – this time to fund the construction of connected welcoming arches across the C of I’s campus.

In 1975, Marie Osborn would ride into the Salmon River Emergency Clinic in Stanley, Idaho on the back of a snowmobile. Inspired to open the clinic three years earlier in 1972 to fill the need for medical services in outback Idaho, she became known to the population in Stanley for both her love of the outdoors and her commitment to providing 24/7 emergency care. Starting with Marie’s son, Dr. John Osborn ‘79, the clinic has played host to two interns from The College of Idaho each year for the past several decades – a legacy that has become one of the College’s best known internship opportunities among students pursuing careers in the medical field.

Once again, The College of Idaho is included among the top 15 percent of America’s four-year colleges in The Princeton Review’s 2019 edition of The Best 384 Colleges, an annual publication highlighting the best colleges in the nation based on 138,000 student surveys.

C of I honored as top accounting bachelor’s program in Idaho

The College of Idaho can add another accolade to its list of top honors with an endorsement from AccountingEdu.org listing the College’s Accounting-150 Hours program as the top accounting bachelor’s program in the state for the 2018-2019 school year.

C of I students participate in NEW Leadership Idaho

Nearly two dozen female undergraduates, representing six Idaho colleges and universities, recently spent a week in Boise attending NEW Leadership Idaho. This program is a political “bootcamp” designed to encourage more women to become leaders in their community and to run for political office. Boise State hosted the residential workshop, with students living on campus and attending a minimum of 10 hours a day in workshops then returning to the dorms for independent and group work.
