Friends, volunteers, and other visitors celebrated the 2015 Night at the Museum on September 18! This free annual event is the Museum's celebration of Homecoming Week at The College of Idaho.
The celebration began with a social event featuring light appetizers and a tasting of Bitner Wines.
Dr. Charlotte Borst (the President of The College of Idaho) introduced the evening's presentations with a historical reflection on the importance of natural history museums for science education. Her introduction was followed by a talk by Dr. Ron Bitner (a member of the Museum's Board of Directors, Research Associate of Entomology, and owner of Bitner Wines). His topic was "Adventures of a College of Idaho bee biologist."
Dr. Bitner and William H. Clark (Museum Director) presented the 2015 Outstanding Museum Volunteer awards to Drs. Alan R. Gillogly and James K. Ryan (both Curators of Entomology) for service to the Museum.
Dr. Eric Yensen (a member of the Museum's Board of Directors) presented the Faithful Museum Advocate award to Bill Belknap for his many years of advocacy for the Museum.
Barry Fujishin (from The College of Idaho Development Office) presented the Legacy Award to members of the Clark and Houston families for making the initial donations that led to the establishment of a fund that (with help from other donors) will provide money for a new Museum Building.
A Museum Open House with dessert refreshments followed the presentations.
