The College of Idaho Art Club is set to host its inaugural community Chalk Art Competition from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, on the C of I Campus in Caldwell. The event is being held in conjunction with the College’s Homecoming festivities and will take place on the sidewalks around McCain Student Center. The competition is free and open to participants and observers of all ages. 

The College of Idaho Department of Theatre & Speech Arts is pleased to present its fall main stage production, "Pericles, Prince of Tyre." The play opens Nov. 9 and shows at 7:30 p.m. nightly Nov. 9-10 and Nov. 15-17 with a closing matinee show at 2 p.m. Nov. 18. All performances take place in the Langroise Studio Theatre on the C of I campus in Caldwell. Tickets cost $15 for adults or $10 for seniors and students. Zombies have been a bigger part of my life recently than they ever have been. Humans vs. Zombies starts tomorrow, and I am so unbelievably excited. I’ve spent more hours than I’d like to admit catching up on the Walking Dead, and based on what I’ve learned, this is my game plan (which I will adhere to in the case of an actual zombie apocalypse):

The College of Idaho’s Whittenberger Planetarium is exploring the planets Mercury and Mars this month. Come learn about these alien worlds and see the latest findings and images captured by NASA spacecraft during recent voyages to space during the November public show, set for 7 p.m. Nov. 7 inside Boone Science Hall on the C of I campus in Caldwell. The show also will include a quick tour of the constellations and planets visible in the Idaho night sky this month.    

With its date moved back to coincide with the Nov. 8 C of I/NNU rivalry basketball game, Homecoming 2012 will be the latest in College of Idaho history.

Alumni relations director Sally Skinner ’78 also is hoping to make it the greatest. With a “Bringing Back the Pack” theme and a week full of events aimed at attracting more alumni, more students and more fun, Skinner hopes Homecoming will indeed bring more Coyotes back to campus than ever before.

This year's fall production, running next month, is Bill Shakes' Pericles. 

Pericles is one of William Shakespeare's lesser known plays, but it is such a fun piece to work with.  I am an assistant stage manager for the show, so I come to most rehearsals to help set up the stage, get props in order, take notes, call lines, etc.

The College of Idaho is set to host the first lecture of the recently established Carter-Chalker Lectureship on Faith and Contemporary Issues as “Through Many Windows:  A Colloquium on Religion” comes to the C of I campus in Caldwell. The colloquium will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in Langroise Auditorium, shortly after C of I President Marv Henberg gives his annual “State of the College” address. Admission is free and open to the public.

The College of Idaho’s campus food service provider, Bon Appétit, is set to host its eighth annual Eat Local Food Challenge on Sept. 25 inside Simplot Dining Hall on the C of I campus in Caldwell. This year’s event is titled the Eat Local (Fish) Challenge in honor of Bon Appétit’s year-long focus on local and sustainable fish.

The College of Idaho will host a guest speaker as part of the Treasure Valley Psychology Lecture Series for the second consecutive year when University of Illinois professor Art Kramer presents “Take a Hike: Physical Activity, Cognition and Brain Function” at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, inside Langroise Auditorium on the C of I campus in Caldwell. The lecture is free and open to the public.
