CALDWELL, Idaho - The College of Idaho announces the launch of its transformational "Changing the Story" campaign, a $150 million initiative designed to expand access, elevate academic excellence, and strengthen Idaho's future through the power of education. The campaign represents the largest fundraising effort in the college's 133-year history and aims to remove barriers for students while positioning Idaho as a leader in higher education innovation.
The campaign will officially launch at the college's Homecoming football game on September 19, where 30-40 couples who have already committed to "Changing the Story" will take the field at halftime in a powerful display of community support. This unique celebration will showcase the grassroots momentum already building behind the campaign.
A Legacy of Excellence in the Heart of Idaho
Situated in the scenic Treasure Valley with views of the Boise Foothills and Owyhee Mountains, The College of Idaho has been changing lives since 1891. With a remarkable track record that includes eight Rhodes Scholars, top national rankings for social mobility, and a thriving athletics program, the college continues to prove that transformational education happens right here in Idaho.
"This campaign isn't just about raising funds; it's about amplifying the narrative of what's possible for students and their futures, right here in Idaho," said Doug Brigham, President of The College of Idaho. "When education changes everything, everything changes for the better—not just for individual students, but for our entire state."
Campaign Priorities
The "Changing the Story" campaign focuses on four key areas:
Access Idaho Scholarships - Removing financial barriers for talented, motivated students from all backgrounds, with particular emphasis on supporting first-generation college students and those from rural Idaho communities.
Academic Excellence - Advancing academic programs, student-faculty research, and experiential learning opportunities that attract exceptional students and prepare them for leadership roles.
Enriching Experiences - Creating programs and facilities that prepare students not just for their first job, but for a lifetime of meaningful contribution and leadership in their communities.
Endowment & Planned Giving - Building a sustainable foundation that will support students for generations to come through permanent endowment funds.
Impact on Idaho's Future
The College of Idaho's exceptional record of social mobility—ranking among the nation's top institutions for helping students from all economic backgrounds achieve success—demonstrates the campaign's potential impact. With a 10:1 student-to-faculty ratio and personalized attention that transforms potential into achievement, the college has consistently produced graduates who choose to build their careers in Idaho, becoming catalysts for economic growth and community development.
"Every scholarship creates a pathway for a student. Every research partnership connects classroom learning to real-world solutions for Idaho businesses. Every graduate who chooses to build their career here becomes a catalyst for growth," said Bob Miller, Campaign Chair. "We're not just changing individual stories—we're amplifying Idaho's future."
Building Momentum
The campaign has already gained significant early support from multi-generational families who have supported the college for decades, demonstrating the deep community roots and lasting impact of a College of Idaho education. The college's GOLD Alumni network and longstanding traditions like the Boone Fund provide a strong foundation for the campaign's success.
