Benefit concert to establish C of I piano scholarship

The College of Idaho will host a benefit concert Sept. 22 to establish a piano scholarship honoring former C of I piano teacher Fern Nolte Davidson. C of I alumnae Barbara Attebery ’47 and Sylvia Hunt ’59 will perform a piano and organ duo program beginning at 2:30 p.m. in Jewett Auditorium. There is no charge for admission, with all donations and proceeds going toward the scholarship fund, which needs about $1,500 to become an endowed, perpetual award.

C of I Planetarium hosts September public show

The Autumnal Equinox is almost here, and The College of Idaho’s Whittenberger Planetarium is ready for it! The equinox will be the topic of the Planetarium’s first public show of the new school year, set for 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20 inside Boone Science Hall on the C of I campus in Caldwell. The show – the first featuring the Planetarium’s new sound equipment – also will offer an overview of constellations, planets and moon phases visible in the September night sky.

College of Idaho readies for Homecoming 2013

The College of Idaho is set to celebrate Homecoming 2013, which returns to late September this year and will once again feature the popular Taste of the Harvest festival. A full slate of events is planned for Sept. 26-29, including a tailgate party for the C of I vs. Southern Oregon volleyball match, the annual Distinguished Alumni Awards dinner, a special “Seek the Greeks” reunion for fraternity and sorority members and “Embrace the Eights” reunions for the Classes of 1948, ’58, ’68, ’78, ’88, ’98 and ’08.

President Henberg presents State of the College

College of Idaho President Marv Henberg will discuss the recent successes and exciting future of Idaho’s oldest private liberal arts college during the 2013 State of the College address on Sept. 11.

The State of the College address will begin at 4 p.m. in Langroise Center for the Visual and Performing Arts on the C of I campus in Caldwell and is open to the public. The address also will be streamed live online at www.collegeofidaho.edu/videostream.

‘Columbine’ author to speak on C of I campus

The College of Idaho will host guest speaker Dave Cullen, author of the bestselling book Columbine, on Monday, Sept. 9 inside Jewett Auditorium. Cullen, whose bestseller is the C of I’s first-year book for the 2013-2014 academic year, will speak and answer questions from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the entire campus community and the public.

Rosenthal Gallery hosts first exhibition of 2013-14

The College of Idaho’s Rosenthal Gallery of Art is pleased to announce its first two exhibitions of the 2013-2014 academic year. The Rosenthal Gallery is hosting “Domestic Wild,” a joint exhibition by Kate Walker and Barbara Penn along with selected work from three additional members of the group Animal Sign/Animal Mind: Sue Pearson, Kryssi Stradidis and Melanie Yazzi. The gallery simultaneously is hosting “Debris,” a ceramic installation by Caroline Earley. 

Caldwell Fine Arts readies for 2013-14 season

Caldwell Fine Arts is set to kick off its 53rd season celebrating performing arts inside Jewett Auditorium on The College of Idaho campus. The 2013-2014 season begins Sept. 7 with the Beat Beethoven 5K Fun Run fundraiser and C of I Faculty Showcase, “The Lighter Side of Serious,” featuring members of the College’s art, music and theatre faculty. CFA will offer 14 events in all, showcasing a wide variety of live performances ranging from ballet and Baroque to fiddles and folklorico.

Athletics Center ground-breaking set for Sept. 5

The start of construction for The College of Idaho’s $3.5 million Athletics Center will be celebrated during a Sept. 5 groundbreaking ceremony.

The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. on Symms Field, launching an approximately 11-month construction project for the first new building on campus since the Village Apartments were completed in 2002.

Orma J. Smith Museum set for annual Bug Day

The College of Idaho’s Orma J. Smith Museum of Natural History is set for Bug Day, the annual celebration of insects that is one of the museum’s signature events. Bug Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Idaho Botanical Garden in Boise. Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children and IBG members.

C of I Planetarium hosts June public show

The Summer Solstice is nearly upon us and the Whittenberger Planetarium is celebrating with its June public show, set for 7 p.m. Thursday, June 20 inside Boone Science Hall on The College of Idaho campus in Caldwell. Planetarium director Amy Truksa will teach audiences what causes solstices and equinoxes and give an overview of the June constellations, planets and moon cycles to watch for in the Idaho sky.
