Harry Bettis understood the importance of investing in Idaho’s future leaders and its rural communities. Most importantly, Harry cared about access to opportunity; in particular, providing access to students in rural communities to help achieve their educational and professional goals.

Submit your application for admission to The College of Idaho. Once admitted, eligible students will automatically be considered for the Harry Bettis Scholarship and other institutional aid.

Although not required for Bettis consideration, completing financial aid steps can help us identify additional resources available to you. Federal Pell Grants, Idaho Launch, private scholarships, and other outside aid may provide additional support toward your remaining $6,000 tuition, housing, meals, and other educational expenses.
View Financial Aid StepsIncoming eligible freshmen students will receive a College of Idaho financial aid package designed to bring tuition to $6,000. The College’s institutional aid commitment will remain in place for up to four years as long as the student remains enrolled and in good academic standing. The individual scholarships and grants that make up the package may change over a student’s academic career, but The College of Idaho will maintain its overall institutional aid commitment as long as a student remains in favorable academic standing.
Institutional aid may include academic merit scholarships, athletic scholarships, talent awards, visit scholarships, the Harry Bettis Scholarship, Campus Ministries, and other College funded assistance. Federal Pell Grants, Idaho Launch, private scholarships, and other outside grants or scholarships may provide additional support toward tuition, housing, meals, and other educational expenses.

Eligibility is determined by The College of Idaho and may require additional documentation.
Eligible incoming students will secure their College of Idaho institutional aid commitment on a first-come, first-served basis based on the date their enrollment deposit is received, while Bettis funding remains available. Students are encouraged to deposit early.
A fourth-generation Idahoan, Harry Bettis was an outdoor man, who, despite a Stanford education, preferred a life wearing Levis and a Pendleton Shirt and riding a tall horse followed by a cow dog. Harry was a banker, philanthropist, and life-long rancher who was a champion of higher education and who believed that some of the most valuable lessons in life could be learned through hard work.

The College's curriculum forced me to study in areas outside of my comfort zone, and it is in those areas that I am seeing the most differentiators between myself and my coworkers. How you set yourself apart is with better communication, better collaboration, a willingness to think outside of the box.

I hope that honestly people from Idaho learn not to count themselves out. Because I think I counted myself out for a long time. I want people to know that amazing people are cultivated everywhere, all the time, and it has nothing to do with the prestige of an environment, but with the intent of the people in the environment. And that can certainly be possible in Idaho. And that has certainly been possible for me.

Everything just felt right. I love to travel and I love to teach, so I thought the Fulbright was a great opportunity. There’s so much to see before I settle here [in Idaho]. While I’m young, I want to take advantage.

The opportunity to apply for a Truman Scholarship has provided me with experience and connections that I would have not gotten otherwise.
