Institutional Research

The Office of Institutional Research serves all academic and administrative units of the College by providing research and data to improve the College’s academic programs and administrative services. Institutional Research coordinates reports for state and federal agencies and for the College’s accrediting body, the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

The College of Idaho is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU).

Accreditation of an institution of higher education by the NWCCU indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality evaluated through a peer-review process.  An accredited college or university is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future.  Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.

Accreditation by the NWCCU is not partial but applies to the institution as a whole.  As such, it is not a guarantee of every course or program offered, or the competence of individual graduates.  Rather, it provides reasonable assurance about the quality of opportunities available to students who attend the institution.

* Full-Time Equivalency (FTE) is a way to count full-time students and part-time students accounting for the smaller load of a part-time student. Since a part-time student takes a fraction of a full-time load (12 credits), FTE is the headcount of full-time students PLUS the total proportion of the part-time enrollment.

The College of Idaho participates in multiple mandatory and self-reported data sets. Our top two are the Common Data Set and IPEDS.

The Common Data Set Initiative

"The Common Data Set (CDS) initiative is a collaborative effort among [higher education institutions] and publishers as represented by the College Board, Peterson's, and U.S. News & World Report. The combined goal of this collaboration is to improve the quality and accuracy of information provided to all involved in a student's transition into higher education, as well as to reduce the reporting burden on [colleges]." Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System (IPEDS)

"IPEDS is the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System. It is a system of interrelated surveys conducted annually by the U.S. Education Department’s National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). IPEDS gathers information from every college, university, and technical and vocational institution that participates in the federal student financial aid programs. The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, requires that institutions that participate in federal student aid programs report data on enrollments, program completions, graduation rates, faculty and staff, finances, institutional prices, and student financial aid. These data are made available to students and parents through the College Navigator college search web site and to researchers and others through the IPEDS Data Center."
