Cleaver earns Integrity, Service & Leadership Award

December 16, 2018

Shelbie Cleaver is the Integrity, Leadership & Service Award winner for Fall 2018 at The College of Idaho.

Cleaver, a senior from nearby Fruitland, Idaho, is majoring in religious studies. She serves as a student hall director for Finney Hall. When she completes her time at C of I this spring, she plans on attending graduate school with a goal of being a mental health counselor for youth and adolescents.

“I was overwhelmed that everything I was doing was impacting other people,” Cleaver said. “It was rewarding to see that living my life to serve others could be acknowledged like that.”

The award is given to students nominated by staff and faculty as someone who best embodies the values of the C of I community. Those values include community, integrity, leadership and service.

Shelbie said she was “honored” by the nomination by Natalie Davison, Director of Learning Support Disability Services.

“Shelbie is a dedicated PEAK mentor, an involved RA, and an advocate for our many diverse students on campus,” Davison said. “Shelbie takes a hands-on approach to ensure that every person is included and thriving in her community. Shelbie can often be seen taking time out of her day to support her peers in their time of need. Her service goes beyond helping students pick classes and expands to promoting a general campus culture of acceptance and cohesion, as well as being a shoulder to lean on during tough times. When Shelbie sees an area that our college can grow, she takes the lead to ensure that it happens.”
