Potential postponement alert for Saturday football game

To the College of Idaho community,

As many of you know our first College of Idaho home football game is scheduled for this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Simplot Stadium.  We are scheduled to play Southern Oregon University.

Due to the unhealthy air that has settled into the Treasure Valley this week, we believe it is prudent to have a contingency plan in the event the air remains unhealthy and our scheduled game needs to be postponed. Reagan Rossi and our athletic department has been in contact with the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality, and all signs point to the air quality improving over the next 48 hours. We fully anticipate holding all of our pregame functions and kicking off the football game on Saturday as scheduled.

However, if the air quality worsens by Saturday morning, at 9:00 a.m., we will determine if the game needs to be postponed. If it does, you will receive email notification of the postponement, and the media will be alerted. The contingency plan will be to postpone the game one day, and play Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Simplot Stadium.

Additionally, there are two other C of I athletic events that may be affected by the air quality problem. A cross-country meet that was originally scheduled for Treasure Valley Community College’s campus in Ontario has been moved to the C of I and slated to begin at 9:30 and 10:00. The participating teams are C of I, TVCC, CSI and Eastern Oregon. If the air quality is 151 or higher as of 6:00 a.m. Saturday, the meet will be canceled.

The C of I swim team is scheduled to participate in an outdoor swim meet hosted by Boise State Saturday at 9:00 a.m. If the air quality is 151 or higher as of 6:00 a.m. Saturday, the C of I swimmers will not participate.

Our hope is we won’t need to take these steps, but we do have the plan in place if needed.

Go Yotes!

Sincerely,

Dr. Bob Hoover
