As part of the Caldwell Night Rodeo’s Purple Night on Aug. 15, College of Idaho football players pledged support to the Man Up Crusade, an awareness campaign dedicated to supporting victims of domestic violence. Three football players appeared on KTVB to discuss the importance of what they’ve learned since partnering with the program as ambassadors. Read the story and listen to the interviews here!

C of I athletes also appeared in the pages of the Idaho Press as the athletic seasons inch closer, including features on football players Nick Calzaretta and Nik Lyons, as well as basketball player Aidrie Voile. C of I football’s fall camp was also covered with a feature by KIVI Channel 6 here. Thank you to all our local news outlets who have covered our preparations!

Coyote Athletics Roundup: The Lady Yotes volleyball team kicked their season off ranked at No. 7 in the NAIA Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the highest preseason ranking for the team since 2012 when they were ranked at No. 6. They were also picked to win the Cascade Conference title in the CCC Preseason Coaches Poll, receiving eight of the 11 first-place votes. The team is currently 2-2 for the season to date, picking up coach Liz Mendiola her 400th career win against the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies. C of I also picked up a win against Hope International University…In other preseason polling news, the men’s soccer team was selected at No. 10 in the men’s soccer CCC poll,  while the women’s team was selected No. 7.

Faculty and Staff News: C of I English Professor Diane Raptosh was named a recipient of the 2018 Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts. Raptosh appeared on Boise State Public Radio’s Aug. 14 edition of Idaho Matters to discuss the award and her mission to spread the art of poetry throughout the state of Idaho, which can be listened to here!...Arnold Hernandez, C of I’s Director of Inclusion and Intercultural Engagement, was interviewed by the Idaho Press for his role in organizing the Idaho Tejano Music Festival. Alumni News and Notes: Deidra Krys-Rusoff ’89 will continue to serve as the secretary-treasurer for the Metropolitan Exposition Recreation Commission. It will be her third year as a member of the commission, which oversees policies at some of Portland, Oregon’s most prominent visitor venues…Cassie Fontaine ’94 has been promoted to vice president and branch regional manager for the Boise area at Idaho Independent Bank. She joined IIB as a loan officer in 2011 and became the branch manager for Meridian’s branch. In her new role, she will now oversee and direct activities of the Meridian, West Boise and Boise River branches…Jessica Evett ’98 was interviewed by the Idaho Statesman for her role in designing the popular bumper sticker “Blue Girl, Red State,” which has become one of the best-known Idaho political slogans and has spread to other traditionally Republican-leaning states like Utah, Texas and Colorado. Evett worked together with her then sister-in-law Polly Breneman to design the sticker in 2006.
