Yotes win Mayors' Cup in double overtime thriller

Coyote Athletics Roundup: Although the men’s basketball team won in a tight double-overtime against Northwestern Nazarene in the first Mayors’ Cup round, the Nighthawks took the rematch by a score of 83-73. In women’s basketball news, the Lady Yotes are off to a 1-4 start to their season, picking up their sole win against La Sierra University…The Lady Yotes volleyball squad was stopped in the Cascade Conference Championship semifinals, but earned an at-large bid to advance to the NAIA National Championships in Sioux City, Iowa, where they will play in Pool A in their 13th trip to Nationals…The men’s cross country team placed seventh overall at the 2018 NAIA Cross Country National Championships. Student athlete Marcos Cervantes was honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as NAIA West Region Athlete of the Year, while coach Austin Basterrechea was named NAIA West Region Coach of the Year. The Lady Yotes ran to an 11th overall finish in their NAIA Women’s Cross Country National Championship…Both College of Idaho swimming and diving teams were ranked in the latest NAIA Top-10 Coaches Poll, with the Lady Yotes reaching No. 4 and the men reaching No. 8. The women’s ranking is the highest national rank in the program’s history.

Alumni News & Notes: James D. Hovren ’80 was named as one of the 2018 Idaho Business Review Leaders in Law. Hovren is currently managing partner at Evans Keane LLP in Boise, Idaho. In 2017, Hovren had the honor of being selected to participate in the U.S. Navy’s Distinguished Visitor Embark Program aboard the USS NIMITZ (CVN 68), and in 2018 was honored to be selected as the first Honorary Battalion Commander for the 1st Battalion – 183rdAviation Regiment (Attack Helicopter) of the Idaho Army National Guard.
