C of I Welcomes Historian Dr. Jacob Flaws for Neilsen Lecture on Treblinka
The College of Idaho’s Neilsen Lecture Series in Judaic Studies will host Dr. Jacob Flaws, Assistant Professor of History at Kean University, for a lecture titled “Spaces of Treblinka: Retracing a Death Camp.” The event will take place Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 12:15 p.m. in CMLI B01.
Dr. Flaws’ lecture draws from his research utilizing testimonies, oral histories, and recollections from Jewish, German, and Polish witnesses to create a fuller understanding of the Treblinka death camp. His work challenges misconceptions that Treblinka was an isolated site, instead revealing its proximity and visibility to surrounding communities and how its presence was experienced beyond the camp itself.
The Neilsen Lecture Series, sponsored by the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation and organized by Dr. Nick Underwood, Assistant Professor of History and Chair of Judaic Studies, brings Jewish scholars, dignitaries, and public figures to campus each year to foster dialogue about tolerance, diversity, history, and contemporary issues.
This event is free and open to the public. Boise State University will also host Dr. Flaws for a related lecture on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Albertsons Library.
