With December fast approaching, The College of Idaho will help ring in the holiday season with a number of popular events, including the Sixth Annual Holiday Tree Lighting on Monday, Nov. 26, the Feast of Carols on Wednesday, Nov. 28, the C of I Wind and Jazz Ensembles on Thursday, Nov. 29, and the Piano Studio on Friday, Nov. 30.
Growing up is never easy – no matter the age or the timing, adolescence brings universal challenges. Those challenges are hard enough to face in a vacuum – the search for one’s identity, the fight to understand sudden changes – but adding a full house of siblings, cousins and extended family in the midst of the 20th century’s greatest economic downturn certainly doesn’t make finding oneself any easier.
The College of Idaho Theatre Department aims to bring audiences back to 1930s Brooklyn, New York in the coming-of-age comedy “Brighton Beach Memoirs,” written by Neil Simon and directed by Deborah Penrod. The show will run at 7:30 p.m. from Nov. 1-3 and Nov. 8-10 with 2 p.m. matinee shows on Nov. 4 and Nov. 11 in the Langroise Studio Theatre on the C of I campus.

As November approaches and the nights grow longer, The College of Idaho’s Whittenberger Planetarium is inviting the community to ease into the fall season gently with its “Under the Stars” program, a collaboration with the C of I’s Chamber Singers.
The College of Idaho’s choirs will present their annual fall concert at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10 in the Langroise Recital Hall, promising a wide range of dynamic choral works from both classical and modern-day composers.
For their first major exhibition together since the birth of their son Edwin, Eric Mullis and Kelly Cox are combining their experiences with parenthood along with their experiences with mass media and the outside world.
Caldwell Fine Arts at The College of Idaho kicks off their season in Jewett Auditorium with Okaidja Afroso, a Ghanaian drummer, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29.
Since The College of Idaho began offering classes through its Community Learning program, over 1,000 individuals have enjoyed the variety of exciting activities the classes have hosted, from new skills like beer brewing and ukulele playing to educational opportunities in gender identity and religious icons.
This summer, C of I Community Learning is back for another season of classes geared toward fun, applying all the enjoyment of picking up new skills and hobbies without the added stress of grades, tests and homework. And between over 30 classes and summer camps offered in person and over 100 online courses to choose from, there’s a class available for every interest.
As the spring semester draws nearer to its end at the College of Idaho, the talented performers in the C of I music department are ready to present their spring concerts to close out the school year, including both vocal and instrumental sounds in a variety of genres and styles.
When C of I biology and art double major Quin McLaughlin’s name was called as the 1st Place winner for poster presentation in the Marine and Aquatic Biology category at the 43rd Annual West Coast Biological Sciences Undergraduate Research Conference earlier this month, she was so surprised by the recognition that she lost her shoes en route to accepting her award.
“I was just so shocked and excited that I had won,” McLaughlin said. “That day, I was just glad that people who saw my poster were excited about my research. It was nice seeing that excitement from other people, and I’m glad people think it’s as cool as I do.”
