C of I Math Club to attempt world record human Pi representation on March 14

Most people can remember the first few digits of the mathematical constant Pi: 3.14. A select few can remember the digits of the irrational number to hundreds of places. And on March 14 this year, as part of The College of Idaho’s 15th annual celebration of what is commonly called Pi Day, the C of I Math Club is aiming to enter the Guinness Book of World Records by creating the longest human representation of Pi digits — 600 people, all in one, unbroken Pi chain.

Maddy Kelly worked together with fellow business students Nosipho Dube, Clayton Kreps, Emily Hamilton and Michael Hazen since November 2017 to prepare a thorough stock valuation on Idaho-based potato company Lamb Weston. The C of I group competed against four other Idaho schools for the opportunity to move forward from the local level to the regional and national levels.

C of I theatre student named regional semifinalist for National Ten-Minute Play Award

Alcoser will add playwright to his list of accomplishments at this February’s Region VII conference of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival between Feb. 19-23. Alcoser’s ten-minute play, “h/ECHO/kes” (pronounced as “he chokes”), has been named a regional semifinalist for the KCACTF National Playwriting Program — the first C of I student in the program’s history to have their play performed at the regional conference.

During this day, one of the activities provided for C of I students not only helped them understand poverty, but it also provided them with the tools to make social change within a local community.

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter.”

College of Idaho junior Irvin Brown stood at a lone podium in the Langroise Recital Hall the night before Martin Luther King Jr. Day to quote the man himself. Brown, an anthropology/sociology major, and over a hundred other members of the C of I community had just finished marching by candlelight to Langroise from Simplot Stadium, crossing Blaine Street and Cleveland Boulevard in honor of the civil rights icon, showing solidarity with his message of equality.

ASCI organizes "Trunk or Treat" event for Caldwell community

Halloween may be spooky and frightful, but the Associated Students of the College of Idaho want to make it sweet and friendly for the Caldwell community by hosting their first ever “Trunk or Treat” event, which is set between 3-6 p.m. on Oct. 28 in the McCain parking lot.
